Summary

This study if for patients that have a blood disease and it's been determined that the best option for treating that blood disease is a cord blood transplant. Cord blood (CB) is blood that is taken from the umbilical cord and placenta of healthy newborn babies after childbirth. The cord blood collected from a newborn baby is called a cord blood unit. The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) considers cord blood to be a biological drug. These are considered "investigational" products. This study will evaluate the safety of administration of the investigational cord blood units by carefully documenting all infusion-related problems.

Validation of computer-based saccade measures as a sensitive, reliable, and freely available biomarker for tracking subtle neurocognitive changes in Parkinson's disease

Summary

We will ask 80 patients with Parkinson's disease, representing the full spectrum of motor and cognitive symptoms, to participate. Participation will include measurement of eye movements using two methods: the new computer-based saccade battery and the best available video-based eye-tracking equipment. The evaluation will be repeated about 30 days later. Data will be analyzed to determine whether the computer-based tasks are reliable and able to provide the same quality of information as the gold standard in eye-tracking. A comparison sample of 80 healthy older adults will also complete the behavioral saccade tests in order to establish normative data that will enable application in clinical settings.

This study is for participants who have been diagnosed with a brain tumor called either a medulloblastoma or Central Nervous System embryonal tumors of the brain or spinal cord. The investigational drugs used in this study are thiotepa, etoposide and carboplatin. Summary

The study team is recruiting 20 adults with spasticity due to chronic stroke and 20 adults with no neurological injuries for a 4 day study over 1 week. In people with chronic stroke, one of the most common and disabling problems is spasticity (increased muscle tone or muscle stiffness). The purpose of this research study is to examine effects of dry needling on the nervous system (pathways between the muscle, spinal cord, and brain) in people with spasticity due to chronic stroke. Dry needling is a procedure in which a thin, stainless steel needle is inserted into your skin to produce a muscle twitch response. It is intended to release a knot in your muscle and relieve pain.

The total study duration is 4 visits over one week. The first visit will take about 1.5 hours, during which the study team will determine the best electrode placement and create a removeable cast of your arm or leg to aid in placing electrodes in the next visits. The second visit will take about 3 hours, during which dry needling will take place, and the fourth and fifth visits will take about 1.5 hour. During all visits you will be asked to participate in examinations of reflexes (muscle responses to non-invasive nerve stimulation) and arm/leg function.

The Advanced Cardiac Therapies Improving Outcomes Network (ACTION) is a distributed network-based learning health system (LHS) of care centers, clinicians, researchers and industry representatives partnering with patients who have heart failure and their caregivers with the ultimate aim of achieving health, longevity and quality of life equivalent to the general population. See https://www.actionlearningnetwork.org for more information. The initial focus will be to apply structured quality improvement methods, advanced information technology systems, and sharing of best practices to track and continuously improve health-related outcomes for children with heart failure requiring advanced therapies. In the future, we plan to collaborate with other established registries and learning network (i.e. UNOS, PHTS and Cardiac Networks United) to create an integrated network that improves care throughout all phases of a patient's illness including chronic heart failure, acute decompensated heart failure, ventricular assist device support and transplant.

This study is for patients who have been diagnosed with a respiratory viral infection, like respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), influenza, human metapneumovirus, and/or parainfluenza virus, after a hematopoietic cell transplant. The investigational drug in this study is ALVR106. The purpose of this study is to determine if ALVR106 is safe and to determine the best dose (amount) for treating respiratory infections. Summary

Patients with cardiovascular disease (CVD) are at increased risk of depression following hospital discharge. Unfortunately, most depressed CVD patients do not receive appropriate care for their depression, often because they are unable to, or are fearful of traveling to providers for the regimen of 8-12 weekly visits of therapy such as Behavioral Activation (BA). This study will compare the effectiveness of BA for depression, delivered via Telehealth, to standard post-CVD hospital discharge best practices. It is predicted that patients who receive BA will have better mental health outcomes and will be less likely to be re-hospitalized compared to patients who receive standard post-discharge care.
